You Knew What I Was Before You Took Me In

If you've been watching the news you've heard about all the soul searching the Republican Party is engaged in. Of course, they aren't really soul searching, they are merely dissecting and analyzing their rhetoric.

I've yet to hear any Republican come out and admit that it is possible the party is wrong on some issues. They aren't now proclaiming that they realize women should get equal pay and have dominion over their reproductive systems. They aren't admitting that the Constitution states that "all men are created equal" or that we should all have the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” i.e. gays should be able to marry.

No, you won't hear about any true soul searching by the Republicans. What you will hear is a lot of talk about presenting their message differently and toning down the rhetoric.

Change You Can't Believe In

The Republican Party is not going to change its core beliefs. They will try, however, to re-package the same old ideas in new packaging designed to catch your attention. The Republicans will tone down the crazy talk about rape, abortion and birth control. They will embrace their new favorite people, Hispanics and Asians. They will try to make nice with black people and try to ignore gay rights. But, deep down in the cesspool they call their souls they will still believe the same thing - that they are superior and have a mandate from God since it is they who hold the key to the box entitled American values.

So, buyer beware. There is no truth in labeling on the new Republican package. The only thing new is the shiny new box - the contents still stink of the same arrogance and hypocrisy as it always has.

Until the Republican Party separates itself from the Tea Party nuts and the Evangelical Christian extremists it will not change. The Evangelicals have proven that party comes before principles and racism trumps true Christian values and the Tea Party has reaffirmed its bat shit crazy nature. Fox News was exposed as a purveyor of propaganda that facilitates right-wingers staying in the bubble that facts don't penetrate. This is the party of non-facts, like made up poll numbers and anti-science creationists and there is no soul searching going on.

Take Me In Oh Tender Woman!

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Oh well," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk
And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk
Now she hurried home from work that night as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taking in had been revived
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

Now she clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful," she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight
But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

"I saved you," cried that woman
"And you've bit me even, why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

The Snake lyrics

Do not be fooled by the dying Republican Party begging to be revived. You know what it is and in spite of its conciliatory pitiful pleas, it will remain a snake – forget that at your own peril.
