World Series Odds 2012: Are the New York Yankees Still Favorites To Win It All?

The New York Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball this season. They are nearly 20 games over .500 at the end of July, have a seven game lead over the second-place Baltimore Orioles and are buyers at the trading deadline. The American league is loaded with talented teams in Texas, Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago, but are the Yankees the favorite to win it all?
The latest World Series odds would indicate that the Yankees are the favorites. The latest baseball odds posted by Just Bet have the Yankees as 4.7-to-1 favorites, just behind Texas 4.5-to-1 to win the World Series.
The Yankees recently traded for veteran outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and he will bring a solid defensive presence in the outfield and a steady batting average at the bottom of the order. However, it may not be enough to allow the Yankees to bring a title back to the Bronx.
The first hurdle is obvious; they have injuries to contend with. Most recently, third baseman Alex Rodriguez had his hand broken when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Seattle Mariners ace, Felix Hernandez. He was hitting just .274 with 15 homers and 44 RBIs entering this game, although he was hitting .328 over his last 16 games. So although his production is not sensational, he is the best option at third.
A -Rod could miss up to five weeks and Eric Chavez will replace him in the lineup for now. This is a downgrade at the position and the Yankees will need A-Rod back if they want to go after another ring. This comes on the heels of an announcement by New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman that All-Star closer Mariano Rivera will not play this season.
With a suspect pitching rotation, injuries and uncertainty there seems to be no value in betting on the Yankees to win the World Series. In fact if your looking for value when it comes to betting on teams to win the World Series, the Dodgers are listed at 12-to-1, the Nationals are at 5-to-1, and the Angels come in at 9-to-1. Anything can happen with weeks to go in the regular season, but the time is now to get great value on betting who will win the World Series.
