Why do we have trouble surrendering?

Human beings have a difficult time surrendering themselves to others, I don't know if it is a survival instinct that makes us always want to be in control or just because we are so stubborn that we want to be in control all the time. I will be the first to admit that I always have reservations when some asks me to do something, I tend to second guess them and wonder if they are simply trying to set a trap for me. In my experience, however, reserving my decision to follow Jesus Christ is not a wise decision to make, especially when he commands me to do something that I know will affect my entire future. Most people who know me are aware that I have a stubborn streak, so to be obedient by faith is a difficult task to for me to accomplish.
What I do know is that if I never surrendered myself to my Savior I would never have reached where I am today and yes I know that this could be a difficult thing for a non believer to wrap their head around. When I think to myself that someone was actually ransomed to help me get to the finish line, I could do nothing else but surrender myself. As Christian followers there is a compelling reason why we wish everyone would surrender themselves to as they know they should. Children are the biggest examples of human beings who fail to follow directions and unless we as parents work with them on this issue, they will never be able to show obedience or commitment to anything, in fact this is how individuals turn to a life of criminal activities.
