Book Giveaway & Review: The Invisible Ones by Bestselling Author Stef Penney

When I received The Invisible Ones by bestselling author Stef Penney from the publisher, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve always been intrigued by Romany (Gypsy) culture, so a mystery involving a Romany detective in 1980’s England sounded like it might be an interesting read. What I didn’t bargain for was a novel I couldn’t bear to put down during the Christmas holidays when I had an out of town guest and tons of activities on my schedule. I should have known it would be like that. LOL Be forewarned: You need the time to burrow into this one and savor it – and you will savor every minute of it. It’s perfect for a wintery weekend of reading by the fireplace with your detective hat on and your favorite hot beverage in hand.

Ray Lovell is in a hospital bed, unable to talk and partially paralyzed, and he has no clue how he got there or why he’s in the state he’s in. All he knows is that he is plagued by horrific nightmares every time he closes his eyes.

“As it turns out, memory loss may be the least of my problems. Technically, I am in a state of ‘diminished responsibility.’ That is what the police conclude after paying me a visit in my hospital bed. What I had done was drive my car through a fence and into a tree in a place called Downham Wood, near the border between Hampshire and Surrey. I had no idea where Downham Wood was, nor what I was doing there.”
