Bob Ryan says the Celtics want to trade up and draft Harrison Barnes

There are a number of issues that I have with this. First off, Harrison Barnes is projected to be drafted in the top five overall. The Boston Celtics currently have picks No. 21 and 22, which if packaged together would get you nowhere near the top five. Secondly, Barnes was a good player at North Carolina. Good, not great or spectacular or downright filthy. He was a good, solid swingman, not a guy I would trade two current draft picks, some future draft picks and maybe a young guy or two for. The third — and maybe most important — reason as to why I might be a little hesitant on Barnes is the dreaded "P" word: Potential. Harrison Barnes has had an infinite amount of potential for about three years now and he's turned all of that potential into average results and more talk about potential. The kid has skill. I've watched a good number of UNC games over the last couple of years and have seen flashes that made it easy to see why the scouts have been drooling over him for quite a while now. I've also seen him have games where he wouldn't have been able to throw a rock in the ocean if he was standing in the ocean. I like Barnes. I'm just not sure I like him enough to give up a bunch of pieces that the Celtics could use to build a pretty good team for the present.
