Team Pied Piper is dispatched to Arizona to take on a Secret. Noah is an advocate for reading. Summary: A Scub Burst event occurs near Phoenix, Arizona, and the US military engages the Secret that appeared but the first US effort was defeated. Generation Bleu's services have been requested but Team Pied Piper is stuck waiting near the Mexican border while Rebecka and Gazelle negotiates with Arizona's governor to let Team Pied Piper into the state. The governor has a history with Rebecka inside the PR arm of Generation Bleu's parent company and is purposely holding out to exchange for something from Rebecka. You and your local shopping center have just won a free trip to the Grand Canyon. Only "to" though and return transportation not included. Back at the Triton, Ao and Noah are reading up on the story of the Pied Piper while Ivica gets word that the US is going to attack with ground troops because supposedly Secrets only react to LFOs and machines. Ivica has a bad feeling about it and decides to cross the border to warn the US military, and Ao tags along as the FP driver. The two head into Phoenix and spots a group of soldiers and civilians on the rooftop of a shopping center. Ao and Ivica land and wonders why the people haven't evacuated, and it turns out one of the soldiers was Truth in disguise and he has forced the others away from the helicopters. Ao charges at Truth but Truth activates some strange powers. After a while, Ao wakes up, and he and the rest of the people find that shopping center has been teleported to the middle of the Grand Canyon. Gotta love how no two tents of the same color are next to each other. The Secret comes upon the mall having annihilated the second wave of US attacks. The Secret, in the shape of a giant flying tadpole, opens its mouth to release smaller hovering pods. The US soldiers open fire and destroys some of the pods, but contrary to popular knowledge the Secret pods target the soldiers and civilians with disintegration beams. Ao, Ivica, and the rest of the soldier/civilian group run into the mall to hide. Ao is in shock after seeing people being killed around him. Ivica goes to talk to Ao and explains that he came up with the name of Pied Piper. Ivica was a soldier in a nation that no longer exists, and he joined Generation Bleu to atone for his sins. Ivica thinks of himself as the Pied Piper because he leads the children who are LFO pilots onto the battlefield, but Ivica promises not to let Ao or any of his pilots die. Ao goes off the grovel some more and he notices that some of the mannequins in the mall have been attacked by the pods, and Ao figures out that the pods are identifying humans based on their shape alone. Ao and the others sneak back to the helicopters and the FP by scurrying inside camping tents. After escaping from the mall, Ivica and Ao head back to the Triton. Can't let the kids have all of the glory. Meanwhile, the governor learns that the second US attack has failed but is still holding out. Rebecka tells Gazelle to leave her alone with the governor. With Gazelle gone, the governor states that he wants to shake the world and gets real close to Rebecka to outline his terms, but Rebecka pulls a gun and tells the governor to state his terms without getting so close. Team Pied Piper gets the permission to launch, and Ivica has a plan. Ivica has Fleur and Elena lure the Secret into the canyon. Ao appears with the Nirvash in LFO mode, and as Ivica had predicted the Secret identifies the Nirvash as humanoid and releases pods. Ao is chased away by the pods and can't get close to the Secret, and so Ivica goes to plan B which is have himself shoot the Secret with a bazooka to make it open its mouth. As the Secret opens its mouth, Elena and Fleur charge in with their LFO and fires into the Secret's mouth, destroying the Secret. After the battle, Fleur and Elena go to retrieve the Scub Coral core. Back at the ship, Ivica advises Gazelle not to inquire into Rebecka's path, but Gazelle isn't so willing to be told what to do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ao actually catches sight of Truth in this episode, but he is no closer to getting Naru back or getting any idea as to what Truth really is and what he is after. The series is really holding out with keeping Naru out of the story considering she's supposed to be the female lead. The way the story is unfolding seems a bit strange. This episode was a little strange as well as Generation Bleu ended up operating in the US, and the US was made out to be a possible enemy in the earlier episodes. And for some reason, the call to let Generation Bleu in rests on the governor of Arizona and not the President? The episode played into the prior history between Rebecka and the governor and how Generation Bleu has the power to "erase countries", but I think they are throwing too many little details into the open without piecing them together. I think the message was Rebecka feels guilty about what happened to Ivica's home land which Generation Bleu had helped to "erase", or was it? Anyways, maybe I just lack patience and this will all play out well in the end, but in the meantime there is not that much to get excited about. The one thing that was explained pretty well in this episode was why Ivica came out with Pied Piper name for the team. According to legend, the Pied Piper led kids to their deaths, but Ivica aims to be an exception. Ivica is a tough guy, and he showed it again this episode, putting his own life on the line during the battle against the Secret. Speaking of Secrets, the monsters seem to evolving and can recognize humanoids via shape. Of course, their identifying process is far form perfect and they identify any humanoid shaped object as the enemy. Most of the world certainly don't know much about Secrets other than they are monsters that want to blow up Scub Corals to create a gigantic explosion, but it would make sense for them to become more complex and harder to beat as the show goes on.
