Phyllis Schlafly, who spearheaded efforts against the Equal Rights Amendment in 1973, brought her anti-feminist perspective to a class at The Citadel. She stated that feminism, like liberalism, should be treated as a "bad word" because "everything [feminists] stand for is bad and destructive." A longtime proponent of the view that a woman's place is in the kitchen, Schlafly stated that feminists want to "abolish" the role of stay-at-home mothers because they're "insanely jealous" of men, who have a wife at home cooking dinner and raising children.
