Kio gets a new Gundam and the Feds try to retake Lunar Base from the Vagans.
Time for the Strike Freedom... I mean AGE-FX to make its debut!
Asemu, you are late. 13 years late to be exact.
Asemu and his pirates take Kio back to a space colony near Earth, and Kio and Asemu are reunited with their family including Yunoa and Romary. Asemu talks to Flit and explains that joined the pirates because he found out about EXA-DB and also the truth about how the Federation abandoned the Martian expedition. Asemu was badly wounded in the battle 13 years ago and was rescued by the Bisidian pirates, and now he commands the pirates to conduct raids towards both the Federation and Vagan forces to prevent either side from gaining a significant advantage, and in this manner Asemu hopes will prevent massive bloodshed. Flit disagrees and sticks with his hardline "exterminate the Vagans" view, but Asemu doesn't give a crap and leaves. Later, Kio talks to Flit about his experiences at Second Moon and notes that the Vagans are suffering too. Flit tries to impose his hardline stance on Kio, but Kio has his own views.
A month later, the Federation plan to retake their Lunar Base which was lost to Vagans when its commander defected. For this mission, Kio gets a brand new Gundam called the AGE-FX. Constructed by the AGE Device based on battle data from the AGE 3, the AGE-FX is faster and more maneuverable than before and has a X-rounder psycho-commu system to control remote weaponry called C-funnels.
When you have funnels, you have to funnel spam.
The Diva and the rest of the Federation ships fly above the moon and release their mobile suits to attack Lunar Base. Kio dominates the battlefield with the C-funnel blades of the AGE-FX, but Kio doesn't want to kill the Vagans so he decapitates the mobiles suits to spare the pilots. In the Diva, Natora questions Flit about why they brought an experimental weapon of mass destruction, and Flit states that he has permission from Frederick to use said weapon. Flit secretly plans to use the weapon to annihilate the Vagans. Asemu and his pirate ship is also hanging out in the area, and Asemu plans to help the Federation because letting Vagans have the moon would allow the Vagans to easily stage attacks on Earth and bring in some heavy weaponry. Inside Lunar Base, Zeheart is in command and anticipates the battle against both the current Gundam and Asemu.
Vagan's last hope?
At Second Moon, a sick Ezelcant stumbles into a chamber and states that he'll entrust the last task to a long-haired male suspended in a liquid container.
This episode is the start of the "fourth" and final act of the series, with a new main Gundam along with new opening and ending sequences. Kio is still the main character, but from the OP it looks three generations of the Asuno family will be fighting together on the front lines, with Asemu using his AGE 2 Darkhound and Flit using a repaired and bulked-up version of the AGE-1. Given that none of the main Asunos died or became unable to fight yet, it makes sense for them to fight together at the end. Their philosophies definitely differ though with Flit still having the stubborn "destroy all Vagans" type of view while Asemu and Kio have something more moderate. It'll lead to some clash of view points, but they'll work together at the end.
This episode marks Asemu's return to the family that he abandoned for 13 years, and surprisingly little happened (or was shown). Asemu only had a real conversation with Flit, and all he did for his wife and son was to hug them. Asemu's reasons for hiding out as a pirates didn't seem terribly compelling. I was expecting some larger secret, and perhaps I was expecting too much. I kind of wanted Romary to slap Asemu before giving him a hug, since Asemu kind of deserves both.
So after the disappointment that was the AGE 3, Kio gets a new Gundam and this may mark the beginning of Kio Yamato era where he dominates the battlefield with remote weapon spam and do with without killing enemy pilots. He even did a little "SEED mode" when he destroyed the large missiles launched by the Vagans. On the other side, the Vagans are bringing out a pink and a green commander type mobile suits, the Vagan Gundam of course, and some giant mobile armor hinted at in the OP. Perhaps that guy in the tube that Ezelcant was visiting will be the one to pilot the final boss armor. As for Zeheart, his role seems to have been reduced if the OP is any indication. He doesn't even personally appear, and Ghirarga only appears briefly to be tackled away by the Darkhound. I guess Asemu and Zeheart will finish their business after all.
