A psycho who murders murderers? A morally blank protagonist? It's certainly a long time since Kojak and Cagney and Lacey ruled the airwaves. And here we are with Dexter 6, with two more on order. It's a dance on the dark side, an unbelievable anti-hero (a serial killer with enough discipline to target 'bad' killers), but a premise that is a great What If… Dexter – dark humour, grisly, fascinating The makers have cleverly riffed on the fantasy created by novelist Jeff Lindsay in his book Darkly Dreaming Dexter to create a blackly humorous, grisly but fascinating show. Dexter is the socially inept outsider asking the questions we all occasionally ask. How do I fit in? What is the 'right' thing to do? What is religion all about? How should I behave? The opening episode of series 6 is full of irony and the trademark horror. Dexter announces that he is attending his 20-year high school reunion to his disbelieving half-sister, Debra. 'You hated high school,' she says to the former class geek. Later, she misreads him and says, 'You're hoping to get laid.' Doomsday Killers Er, not exactly. He suspects one of the jocks of having murdered his wife, and plans to take his retribution. Trying to get a blood sample by pricking the quarterback's hand during a handshake to confirm his guilt, Dexter is foiled when the guy fist bumps him instead, so that Dex gets a sample of his own blood. Dexter attracts the women And looking better than he did at high school (his classmates having ballooned a bit), and having lost his wife, Dexter is stunned to find he is now very attractive to women to whom he was once invisible.
