Ray Allen doubtful to return to the Celtics on Saturday against New Jersey

This news comes on the heels of hearing that Allen didn't make the trip to Toronto for tonight's game against the Raptors. Some thought that this might have been Doc Rivers' way of resting some of his veterans during this brutal back-to-back-to-back. Let Ray have the first game off, rest up and throw him out there for a normal back-to-back scenario. That's not the case. Something is definitely wrong with Ray Allen. Allen initially rolled his ankle on March 12 against the Clippers. After playing in the next five games, he sat down for the following six. He's played decent minutes since returning to the team and really hasn't been stretched too thin, but the ankle is still giving him issues. Now he's going to miss at least two-thirds of the three-game stretch that the Celtics have been dreading all season long and a stretch where they'll need as many bodies as possible to keep their overall wear and tear to a minimum. Nobody can escape Father Time. Not even Ray Allen, the guy who hasn't eaten a cheeseburger in 20 years. The older you get, the longer it takes to recover from injuries. So now the Celtics are forced to give Allen's minutes to Avery Bradley and the newly-recovered Mickael Pietrus. It might not be a bad idea for Doc to sit Ray as long as possible before the postseason starts. Allen won't be 100 percent going into the playoffs, but the Celtics will need to get all that they can out of him.
