I am now officially disillusioned by the current political reality of our country after the humiliating debacle that was the debt ceiling debate. The constant back and forth bickering reminded me of the scene in in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure where Pee-Wee Herman and his nemesis Francis Buxton were childishly exchanging: "I know you are, but what am I?" Then when the inevitable blame game began, a quote from my second-grade teacher came to mind: "I don't care who started it!" For all the preaching our leaders like to do about our Founding Fathers, they defile their legacy by engaging in such juvenile antics.In order to lift my spirits I turn to Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, who manages to purge the funk of politics from my mind like a comedic enema. Admittedly I'm not a regular viewer, but I certainly enjoy watching when I need a laugh. Unfortunately that seems to be more frequent these days, but I suppose it's better for me than drinking. Many people would consider it a safe bet, and I would agree, that Mr. Stewart's politics lean decidedly to the left. That, combined with his relentless lampooning of the Fox News Channel, has earned him a reputation among ardent conservatives as a liberal propagandist. Considering that definition carefully, it would imply that he is involved in the organized dissemination of information designed to assist the liberal agenda. Therefore it stands to reason that he wouldn't direct his comedic slings and arrows at liberals since that would damage, rather than further, the agenda he should working to promote.Anyone who would make that charge clearly doesn't watch the show with any frequency because he makes fun of liberals all the time which I think actually makes him a terrible liberal propagandist. For your comedic enjoyment, I have provided evidence to back up my claim. In the interests of full disclosure, I had dug up these links some time ago and had them on hand. I thought about writing this post after a recent discussion and decided it would be easy as I had already done the leg-work. I'm not really trying to go out of my way to defend Jon Stewart, just being really lazy.
