Marble Tray ($4)I guess Matt and I bought this thing somewhere at some point. One or both of us saw it at a yard sale or flea market and said, "Oh, look honey, a heavy green marble slab that matches nothing we own and that we would never use. And only $4! Let's get it! I bet we have absolutely nowhere to put it!"And we agreed: our lives up until that point had been incomplete. This tray would be the newest, most treasured objet d'art in our stuff collection. We put down our hard-earned $4 and lugged it home.$4!?An undetermined number of years later (about a month and a half ago), we saw the tray gleaming at us from the floor of the garage. Somehow neither Matt nor I had ever seen it before."Hey. Look," I said, "We seem to have a marble tray.""I see that," Matt replied."It only cost $4.""So it would appear.""That's a pretty good deal, I guess.""I guess.""...Why do we have this? What in hell would have compelled us to buy a giant marble serving tray!?""I have no idea.""What are we supposed to do with it?""I don't know. ...Cheese?"We had roughly the same conversation 3 times before we decided the best course of action would be to just get rid of it and pretend it never happened.Similar trays are going for upwards of $35 ($31 more than $4!) online, but my eBay track record ain't so good, and the shipping would be a hassle. So if you, Reader, would like this handsome and endlessly useful* genuine marble tray, and you have a pick-up truck or trailer to haul it off yourself, you can have it ($4 donation suggested). Otherwise, I'm serving it up to the Goodwill.
