A few years ago, I set out on my own one-woman protest. I moved my accounts from a major bank to a small neighborhood bank. When I bought a new car, I bought one that was American made, then refused to buy gasoline from a BP or Exxon gas station. They were baby steps, but steps I knew could have huge impact if everyone would do them. Afterall, you gotta hit ‘em where it hurts. I had the idea I would obtain a list of the corporations that lobby Congress and they would become my target companies. I would not support them; stop buying their products; reject their services. That is when I learned about ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council. ALEC is a consortium of global corporations and state politicians who write the laws that govern us. Their so-called "model bills" reach into almost every aspect of American life. Through ALEC, corporations have "a VOICE and a VOTE" on laws that govern us all. Read more »
