I'm afraid Anissa got us another addiction with the recipe of last month, the Biscotti Picanti. I thought these little snacks are just delicious. I really loved the way how all buddies tweaked the recipe to their own liking and some wonderful combinations were discovered. You are all so inventive! Thanks all for baking with us this monh, it was a real pleasure to see all your entries and read about it on your blogs/in the mail. ABC - emergency baking
Published on 2012-03-03 06:26:00
Emergency baking this month for the Avid Bakers Challenge: Emergency blender cupcakes with fudgy frosting. Now I have to start by saying I'm not really a cupcake person. Don't make them often and although they are beginning to get more popular here in the Netherlands, they are not yet a big thing here. We're more "give-me-a-slice-of-a-loafcake" kinda people. But baking something I normally wouldn't (do often) is always nice. These cupcakes were very dense, weren't they. I didn't really understan [..] > read more

It probably won't surprise you all to see this entry appear on the last posssible day, but nevertheless here it is. Another month of the Bread Baking Day-event initiated by Zorra, and this month hosted by Lisa ("Parsley, Sage, Desserts and Line drives"). She choose the theme "BREAD with CHOCOLATE", so maybe I should have baked this for Valentine's day. 4 YEAR BREAD BAKING BABES ANNIVERSARY!!! How time flies when you're having fun. And of course that calls for party food to nibble on with a sip of wine. And as I have the honour to be the kitchen of the month this time, I've picked a Sicilian recipe to enjoy with (or without) a little wine, that even has wine in it too! It's from the wonderful Anissa Helou book "Savory baking from the Mediterranean". She very kindly gave us permission to publish this recipe for us to bake and for you to bake al [..] > read more
ABC February
Published on 2012-02-03 15:08:00
It's time to present the February recipe for the ABC baking challenge. Remember? I started to participate last month: 1 book ( "The weekend Baker" by A. Dodge) from which 1 recipe a month is chosen for a year. This time starring the "Glazed Cinnamon Rolls". I love these kind of rolls. Making the dough I found that I needed at least 100 g more flour. I used bread flour, not AP. Maybe that's why we found that the rolls ended up very very large. We cut them in half to eat them. They were also very [..] > read more
Bread baking Day #46

Although I'm a pretty faithful participant of the Bread Baking Day event initiated by Zorra, I missed the last two editions without it even crossing my mind... must have had a lot of other things on my mind I guess. But this time I'm glad to be able to participate again and give you my entry. This month the Bread Baking Day is hosted by Noor from "Ya salam cooking" and she asked us to bake a bread from a place we would love to visit. Well that needed some thought. Mellow Bakers in Januari ....All Breads baked!!!
Published on 2012-01-19 01:45:00
This is the last month of the Mellow Bakers Challenge: Baking "Bread" by Jeffrey Hamelman. All done! It all started April 2010 and 84 recipes later we've reached the conclusion. A wonderful book with great recipes and technics to understand, make and bake bread. It still is -in my humble view- thé book to purchase when you want to understand how to and bake good bread. My book had it hard, it fell apart during this challenge. The middle part fell out, and however much I glued, it never really [..] > read more
Bread Baking Babes and a timesaving bread
Published on 2012-01-16 09:58:00
This month our talented Babe Ilva came to the rescue with a recipe from Cuba. An easy loaf and a time saving bread too, 'cause you don't have to preheat the oven and let the bread rise. Yes really, you just shove it into a cold oven! As ovens can differ a lot from one to another, the outcome can be a little different as well. My loaf didn't get as "deep golden brown" as stated in the recipe, even though I baked it a little over 60 minutes. I think my oven heats up rather slow. But nevertheless [..] > read more

Anyway beter late than never as they say, so here are the Decemer breads for the Mellow Bakers Challenge.66 percent sourdough rye. Even though I'm not a sourdough or a rya fan, this is a really good bread. I had to use less water than the recipe stated. As usual I had to mix my own 'medium rye flour' as I can't buy that here. Happy New Year

Here in the Netherlands we traditionally bake and eat "Oliebollen" and Apple fritters at the end of the year. And even if it's really my husbands' job to deep fry all those treats (cause I hate it), I had to do it this year. The frying man was ill for a few days, then had to go back to work again. So I took courage and fried both oliebollen with raisins, apple and currants and plain ones one day, standing under the carport in a freezing wind and lots of rain. The second day I made the apple fritt [..] > read more
