Hey, Be Nice!!!

Published on 2012-05-03 21:27:00

Today at work I had to get a Korean teacher to explain to an angry parent that, in fact, I say "Hey, be nice" to my students when they are being mean to each other, not "Hey, Penis!" Oh Koreans and their B's and P's! What did you do at work today? > read more

Awesome kid

Published on 2012-05-03 03:30:00

I had a "that's why I'm a teacher" moment this week so I thought I would share... We all have our favorite students. One of mine is a little weirdo that always makes me laugh. I use the phrase weirdo in the most affectionate way possible. He puts on old lady glasses without any lenses in them before he has to read a passage from the book. He reenacts every single strange-ee Korean > read more

Oh Korea...

Published on 2012-04-06 02:31:00

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. The students at my newish school (about 5 months now) are super well behaved. As for the teachers... Today I went to return a first grade teacher's badminton racquet. She then proceeded to pull a half gallon jug of plum wine from her desk drawer to celebrate the occasion of me returning the racquet (why the f is my browser telling me this isn't spelled right). . Me: Wait, this isn't juice. Teacher: No. Al-co-hol-lic Me: ... Single student still working at [..] > read more

I'm Back

Published on 2012-02-12 18:33:00

I'm sorry for not updating in so long. I have been busy and on a long vacation. Anyway, as you can see, the title of this blog is just Kringlish Kids again. I took a transfer from the international high school to a regular public elementary school. It has been very good, but the kids here are very "normal." They don't do or say many crazy things. The most interesting thing so far is a student refer to an apostrophe as a... Sky Comma > read more

The Stone Boy Alternate Ending 1

Published on 2011-07-20 21:58:00

Towards the end of the semester, I taught my favorite short story "The Stone Boy" to my second graders. Out of all the activities we did involving the story, my favorite was the creative writing assignment of writing an alternate ending to the story. The following takes place right after Arnold accidentally shot and killed his brother Eugie... Arnold turned Eugie's body up. He was bleeding from his forehead. And at that moment, Arnold saw a miracle. "Did you shoot me?" Eugie was alive and spea [..] > read more

Long overdue update

Published on 2011-07-13 02:36:00

Sorry. It's been a rather busy couple of months. Here's something that started off really strong... First, it is necessary for our society to know that mental treatment is not a big deal. For example, in Korea, people will give you a weird look if you have mental counseling. However, as far as I know, it is a common thing to go to a psychiatrist in the United State. Therefore, Koreans must acknowledge that mental ailments are just a disease that can be treated with drugs. > read more

Boundaries

Published on 2011-05-16 21:25:00

As I have made clear in the past, Korean children have very few boundaries. For example, today my students had a medical check. I was alone in the classroom waiting for them to return and slowly 3 boys trickled in. I knew I wasn't going to be able to > read more

Homosexual Confusion
