The Incredible Bongo Band was a project started in 1972 by Michael Viner, a record artist manager and executive at MGM Records. The music is super funky, early '70s soul-drenched instrumentals (many of which were covers of popular songs of the day) heavy on the bongos and congas percussion. Hip hop DJ's have been sampling some of these tracks for years (most notably from their first album "Bongo Rock") so you may recognize some of the grooves.
