My First WordPress Theme Review
Published on 2012-05-21 20:31:44
I’m excited to announce the launch of my newest website – ThereisaThemeForThat.com. It’s a site for me to write reviews of WordPress themes that I find as I set up sites for myself or for clients. I’ve come to believe that there is a WP theme for nearly every website application so this site will be a place where I can aggregate the best of the themes that I have worked with. I was actually surprised to find that there were not very many sites dedicated to actually review [..] > read more
Looking for the Greatest Leverage
Published on 2012-05-11 16:38:04
Give me the place to stand, and I shall move the earth – Archimedes Over the last few weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of leverage. Being blessed to live in a (mostly) free nation, there is a near-infinite amount of opportunities that I could build a business around. With the internet, those opportunities are multiplied all the more while the ease and cost of entry is significantly lowered. So my question over the last few weeks has been in terms of what I could do th [..] > read more
Why I Hate SEO
Published on 2012-03-31 13:43:09
I hate doing SEO. It sucks. The rules are always changing. There is a crazy amount of information to try to stay on top of and it’s just not fun for me to hunt down websites and try to get links from them. Frankly, I’d rather be the one with the sites that other people want links from. Wouldn’t that be ideal? Short of being the Google monster itself, the next best thing is to own the authoritative websites that other people gladly link to and from which links are desired right? [..] > read more
Quick Thoughts on Aggregation
Published on 2012-03-27 21:42:38
So pretty much all Google does is collect information and spit it back out in a manageable way right? And that’s more or less what half the good sites on the web do too as far as I can gather. The media outlets (tv, newspapers, etc.) were doing this long before Google showed up on the scene because back with the printing press, the amount of information surpassed managable quanities. Those who profit in the information age especially, seem to be the ones that can remove the noise and give [..] > read more
Some Cool Stuff Worth Mentioning
Published on 2012-03-22 17:26:15
I’m not a super avid blog reader, but I do come across helpful stuff from time to time. There are so many new services, tools, and amazing-ness being created that it’s nearly impossible to keep up with it all! Nevertheless, I have ran into a few pretty cool things that I thought I’d share. Enjoy! Free Social Media Icons – I am not a designer. I don’t want to be a designer. That’s why my buddy Eric does 99% of all the design work I need done. Sites like this on [..] > read more
Learning Code – Part 3 – Building a Computer Science Mindset
Published on 2012-02-27 11:48:40
As you can see, I’m switching from measuring this series in “weeks” to “parts.” My time constraints vary week to week and this will give me more freedom to post as I learn stuff. I figured I’d start searching around to see if I could find a guide for learning to program. NetTuts, as per normal, offered the best free guide to learning PHP during my cursory exploration. Eventually though, I stumbled across the site LectureFox, which makes available a list of c [..] > read more
Learning Code – Week 2 Adding Custom WordPress Meta Boxes
Published on 2012-02-10 16:39:05
For the most part I had to take this week off of coding. Things were going so well with business that they demanded all of my attention. Hopefully next week I’ll be back at learning. I’ll only have a week before I get into my new job which I start on the 20th of February. About the only thing I did get done is adding Custom WordPress Meta Boxes for a Custom Post Type that I added to one of my sites recently. I found the most helpful and comprehensive Tutorial to be this one on Nettut [..] > read more
Learning Coding – Week 1 Progress
Published on 2012-02-10 16:24:06
So I blew through the PHP Videos on the ThemeForest blog. I had some experience with PHP already so the videos really helped fill in some of the blanks and gave me a better understanding. Because the future TutsPlus videos that I plan on going through also come from a beginners perspective, I thought it wise just to blow through these videos rather than to play with the numerous examples myself. I’ll get plenty of practice later. My buddy Shane turned me onto Titanium which makes coding li [..] > read more
Display Custom Post Type Taxonomy Terms Without the Links
Published on 2012-02-01 20:38:09
I’ve been modifying a theme I bought awhile ago, adding in a custom post type and corresponding taxonomies. I thought it’d be a cool idea to display an image representing one of my taxonomies instead of just the text or a link to the category. So after trying just about every wp function having to do with getting terms, I finally found my answer and decided to share it so you won’t have to spend the hours I did figuring this out. I found this on CSS Tricks which continually pro [..] > read more
Learning to Code for the Web – Week 1
Published on 2012-01-30 12:09:11
Starting Out Coding People often start things and don’t finish them. As King Solomon said, “The end of a matter is better than its beginning” (Ecc 7:8). But nevertheless, I’m starting something today. I’m starting to learn the skill of developing websites. While I have a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, I’ll need to master them both and especially master the new web standards of HTML5 and CSS3. I’ve found a host of videos available on NetTuts.com already [..] > read more
Keeping it Simple in 2012

While I wrote about this from a business perspective on my company blog, I felt like expanding on this here as well as updating my readers on what’s going on with me in 2012, where I’m headed in life and in business, and what they can expect from this blog going forward. Generally, I plan about a million things for myself to get accomplished for my New Year’s resolutions. I write out every book I want to read, other self-improvement tasks such as learning languages, attending s [..] > read more
Affiliate Marketing VS Network Marketing
Published on 2011-07-09 13:14:17
It’s funny to me how mainstream affiliate marketing is becoming while network marketing is still so often despised. It is really very ironic, especially when you consider that there are now many two and three tier affiliate programs. So here’s my question… Why in the world haven’t more internet marketers gone into the network marketing arena?!? Seriously though, think about this for a second. Affiliate marketers are already doing the same thing as network marketers, only [..] > read more
