Detroit Sports Links 2/14/12: Alex Morgan Body Paint, Kate Upton, Miguel Cabrera, and Matthew Stafford? It must be Valentine's Day

Published on 2012-02-14 05:35:29

It's Valentine's Day! Who is your Valentine? What do you love? I love lamp, and the mother and obstetrician who brought Miguel Cabrera into this sweet, cruel world (and DD for bringing him into the Tigers lineup).  I <3 Kate Upton's circle-change.  I <3 that we're talking so much Tigers and it's so close to baseball season.  (I'm </3 that Yoenis Cespedes signed with the A's) I <3 being a Tigers fan. I <3 that Derek Jeter is scared to face the Tigers th

Lions to Replace Offensive Line with 10-Foot Wall In Order to Keep Matthew Stafford Healthy

Published on 2012-02-13 21:10:11

The Lions are taking an innovative approach to football next season by replacing their offensive line with a 10-foot tall building that Matthew Stafford can throw off of. Judging by today's 7-on-7 drills with some bum receivers from ESPN, the results are promising: 6-of-10, with a couple drops and zero QB pressures. There is still no word on whether NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will fine Ndamukong Suh for this, but we won't be surprised if Suh is out another $100k by next week.

Justin Verlander would like Kate Upton to teach him how to throw a circle change

Matthew Stafford dodged a question about her, because he's in love with his girlfriend, but we're never going to be bashful about our flove [faux love] for Ms. Kate Upton around these parts, because Nancy Reagan once said something about women, tea bags, water, and durability.Anyway, I just found out the other day that Kate Upton is a huge Michigan fan, which was a nice lead-in to her being on the cover of the SI swimsuit edition, and Valentine's Day.As if Upton in a bikini wasn't

Would you look at Derek Holland!

Published on 2012-02-13 09:31:58

Apropos to nothing, here's the Texas Rangers' lefty, mustached man-child, Derek Holland, fulfilling a lifetime dream -- doing the weather: I hope my friends in Dallas are okay after the six-feet of rain they had this past weekend. [D4L fist pound to Hot Clicks]

Detroit Sports Links - Red Wings Win 20th Straight at Home, Miguel Cabrera Is Looking Jacked, & Kate Upton the Michigan Fan

Published on 2012-02-13 05:00:00

Detroit links: The Red Wings won their 20th straight home game last night, tying an NHL record, and getting some praise from an unlikely source in the process. Despite Greg Monroe's efforts to carry the team, the Pistons had their winning streak snapped by the Washington Wizards last night. Speaking of Deeetroit basketball (on his shirt, that is), Miguel Cabrera looks like he could carry the team in a different way. Both Michigan and Michigan State won big basketball games th

Let's get classy.  Last night was Ultimate Fan Night for those not concerned with any silly intrastate rivals -- The Red Wings, Pistons, Wolverines, and Spartans all won last night. The Wings have won 18 straight at home and the Pistons have won three straight overall. Michigan and MSU within a game of each other in the Big Ten standings, with big games this weekend.  Interested in getting some good deals on tickets for the nex

Will Ferrell announces Bulls-Hornets lineups (VIDEO)

Published on 2012-02-08 13:10:18

Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention; I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story, and I need all of you to stop what you're doing and listen ... According to the Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein, the always funny and important Will Ferrell will be introducing the lineups at tonight's Bulls-Hornets game as part of a role for a movie, not to further advertise Old Milwaukee beer. I have no idea why this is at all relevant to the film, but I guess it's for the mo

Detroit Sports Links - 11 Days Until Spring Training, Walker Russell Staying In Detroit, More Super Bowl XLVI Coverage, & Wes Welker's Butterfingers

Published on 2012-02-08 05:00:00

DEEETROIT LINKS-OF-ALLLLLL Dave Dombrowski pretty much admitted to the press yesterday that he has no idea who will be the 5th starter this season. This really isn't relevant, other than to update you on the fact that there are now 11 days until Spring Training begins. Meanwhile, Justin Verlander is a ninja riding a cheetah. Despite the fact that Brandon Knight should be back in action tonight after getting fitted for his Rip Hamilton mask, the Pistons are reportedly keeping D-Leagu

Justin Verlander is a 'ninja riding a cheetah'

When Justin Verlander isn't pitching (throwing no-hitters and winning the Cy Young and MVP awards), he's either golfing, riding in racecars, appearing on Conan, eating Taco Bell, perfectly predicting the outcome of the Super Bowl, tweeting, orrrr - deep breath - promoting MLB 2k12, the video game of which he'll be gracing the cover. Yeah, he's pretty awesome, as he explains in the below promo wherein Verlander claims he's trying to be the most perfect, like it's not already the case:

VIDEO: Ex-Michigan State star Greg Jones proposes to girlfriend after Super Bowl

Published on 2012-02-07 09:05:07

This is probably the second greatest Super Bowl Sunday proposal, second only to Matthew Stafford's future proposal. Ex-Michigan State linebacker and Super Bowl XLVI champion Greg Jones proposed an engagement ring to his girlfriend on the field after winning the rights to a ring himself. Here's video: This quote from the Lansing State journal is pretty awesome: “She was bawling,” Jones told the Star-Ledger Monday morning as the team prepared to head home. “I was like, ‘I
