our "siete" de mayo fiesta
Published on 2012-05-08 13:40:00
it's a not-so-secret fact that hub's favorite all-time food is, well, anything Mexican. since we deserted him for play practice on his birthday (last of the thirties!), we decided to have a little "siete de mayo" celebration in his honor, and do some SERIOUS Mexican cooking. we made the most amazing version of "amazing southwest cilantro lime mango grilled chicken sandwiches" from allrecipes.com (wow, that title rivals one i'd write in length!) with flax tortillas from realsustenance.com, inst [..] > read more
baked oatmeal, sweet memories, and allrecipes.com
Published on 2012-05-06 11:48:00
this month, allrecipes.com has asked me to share a memory that ties me to my favorite recipe site. the timing is fitting, since this has been a busy week that resulted in ZERO cooking for me. because my kiddos were in the school play and theatre-major mom came out this week, we spent every waking moment at the school prepping costumes, sets, and character development. we are in the midst of turning our whole house upside-down to make better use of space, so literally every room in the house h [..] > read more

Good Morning, Sunshine! {Paleo Breakfast Recipe}
Published on 2012-03-13 13:29:00
adopting a healthier eating pattern has had the added gift of learning to appreciate what food really tastes like. i'm prayerfully listening to my body, teaching it again what is truly good, and letting it tell me what, of that, it wants and needs. (do I sound like a nut?) one of my favorite breakfasts was inspired by a gorgeous blog post on Left on Amelia. she calls it "the bowl of yum." i've adapted it to whatever's in the pantry and seeming "yum" to me of a morning. this morning it was a [..] > read more
The Critical Thinking Company {Florida Homeschool Resource}

For a while we've loved a company called The Critical Thinking Company as a great resource for creative educational materials. Recently they contacted us to review a couple of their books, and we were happy to do so! Excitedly we opened our box a few days later (delivered by our favorite Fed-Ex guy) to discover Crypto Mindbenders: Famous Quotations, Crypto Mind Benders:Classic Jokes, and Inference Jones: Beginning. We couldn't wait to pull them out and try our hand at some mind-benders! W [..] > read more

...and more importantly, the whimsical heart to enjoy it. i returned from post-holiday-rush burnout to a fresh outlook, and it's all too easy to settle back into the rut of worry and putting-what-should-be-first-last. we plan to hit the farmer's market this weekend and breathe deep the fresh air, taste the hot kettle corn and cold gourmet popsicles, and soak up a free morning. i intend to giggle and play, and not worry about what anyone thinks, and use my camera-tool for capturing what matt [..] > read more

Perhaps my blog may faint from shock after so long a time of under-use. I intend to write - I do. I write in my head. Then someone needs a bottom wiped and someone needs a paper proofread and someone needs a newborn session and ... another silent day passes.But today, I write. Because I have cooked for two solid weeks (or at least I have planned and shopped and occasionally photographed) and I must share.
