'It's like God of War but: better/ worse/ different/ etc.' I recently completed the bloodthirsty action game, God of War 2. It got me thinking about the extent to which genres have been created for games, and vice versa. As long as I've been gaming (since the early 1990s!), I've found genres to be driven by breakthrough games titles and trail-blazing developers, rather than being created from the "top-down" by games authorities (as varied as they maybe!). Having recently played Titan Quest (TQ), by the now non-existent yet talented studio, Iron Lore, I'm reaffirmed of the futility in the graphics "arms race" or "cold war" competition out there. TQ is a feast for the eyes and looks a treat with graphics maximised on today's multi-core, graphic savvy PCs on the market.
