Artist Review: Sage Francis

I apologize for the lack of posts. With school starting I've been incredibly busy. But worry not, I will make time for this little blog of mine. Sage Francis is an extremely talented rapper I've been following for years. His output over his career has varied in style and content, yet has always managed to draw me in. He is truly a storyteller and also involved in the spoken word/slam poetry scene. Why am I reviewing a rapper? Hip hop production has probably been my biggest composing influence.

I've been reading a lot about the Korg Monotron lately, and while I haven't purchased or used one, I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. What grabs most people's attention is the low price tag - around $60 from what I've seen. It's intended to be a compact analogue synthesizer and is equipped with a single octave ribbon keyboard. Recorded ages ago. Redundant, but it serves its purpose. The bassline is two slightly different and alternating timbres. Not incredibly noticeable but it gives it some character. I don't know what I'd classify this as.. I guess plain old techno? House? That's pretty broad. To be honest I'm not up on my obscure electronic genres. I'm more into dubstep and hip hop.
