What exactly is SEO?

The term SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It essentially means optimizing a website for search engines. Search engines like Google and Yahoo! are the most important source for increasing visitors to a website. The most popular search engine is arguably Google, which made 58% of searches Joined U.S. according to Nielsen / NetRatings for the March 2008.

The SEO starts from choosing the right keywords: a process particularly important that many times the page designers underestimate or ignore. For example, a hotel in London called "Gold Hotel" should not be concerned to appear first in the keyword "Gold Hotel", because the user searches for a particular keyword rather than a "Gold Hotel", but the keyword "Hotel London" because obviously this is what potential customers will type.

In the second stage of SEO apply some techniques to highlight more effectively the specific keywords on search engines. These techniques basically change on a small scale site but can eject its ranking in search engines. It is important to clarify that these techniques require a time horizon of one to six months depending on the competitiveness of the keyword. Furthermore it does not mean that after six months the website can not improve the position of another. But certainly such factors as the refresh of the site, the age and content play a large role in visibility.
