USC Football Predictions 2012: Can Silas Redd and the Trojans Go Undefeated?

USC scored big when Silas Redd decided to transfer from sanction-plagued Penn State to California to join the Trojans. The Trojans were already predicted to be one of the best teams in the country, but with Redd they are no doubt one of the favorites to win the 2013 BCS National Championship. This team can realistically go undefeated.

Redd joins a talented offense that includes quarterback Matt Barkley and wide receiver Robert Woods. Redd proved a year ago that he can put up big numbers on the field. He ran for 1,241 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and ran for more than 100 yards in five straight games in mid-October. (via CBS)

USC Football Betting Odds: The move automatically adjusted the odds for USC to win the BCS Championship. At BetOnline, USC became the favorite and is currently listed at +275 to win it all. Just Bet sportsbook also has the Trojans as 3-to-1 to win it all in 2012.

Out of all of the online sportsbooks, WagerWeb has the best odds (4-to-1) for the Trojans to win it all. But if you plan on taking that bet you may want to get it now before it drops.

It could be argued that the Trojans could have won the championship without the services of Redd, but there is no doubting the fact that he makes them stronger than ever. It would not be a surprise if the Trojans become one of the highest scoring offenses in college football history, that is how good this team can be.

If the Trojans have a weakness it may be on the defensive side of the ball. End Nick Perry (13.0 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles) left early for the pros, and two of the top three tackles -- DaJohn Harris and Christian Tupou -- ran out of eligibility. But this is USC so they have young talent that will only get better this year and they recruit better than any team in the country. They have a great secondary which is what they need to stop Oregon which could be their toughest game of the season.

The schedule sets up nicely for the Trojans to go undefeated. They have easy wins against Hawaii, Arizona State, and Colorado on the schedule. They have a few games that could provide problems against Oregon and at Washington, but there is every reason to believe that the Trojans have the talent to finish the year without a loss and with the championship trophy.
