Types Of Stains And How To Remove Them

Stains can be seen on clothing, on carpets, on your shoes and mainly – on everything. To clean a stain you have to know what caused it and what type the stain is. There are a few types of stains and in this article I plan on explaining what causes them and how a stain should be treated.

1. Protein based stains. This type of stains is caused by substances such as baby formula, urine or feces, cheese based food or eggs. For removing such a stain the first thing cleaners St Kilda advice us to do is to soak the stained clothes in cold water for a few hours. Sometimes this is the only thing you need to do, but if the stain is tougher than you thought you should put the clothes in your washing machine and wash them with warm water as usual.

2. Oil based stains. This group includes the spots from kitchen grease, motor oil, suntan lotion, salad dressings, bacon, butter and car grease. Cleaning a stain of this type is much harder as it is from protein based stains, especially if the stain has sat for a while. Dry oil stains are really hard to remove, so you should react as soon as the stain develops. Blot the stain with some liquid laundry detergent and rub with a clean cloth. If the stain has already dried, use a solution of white vinegar and lukewarm water. Blot the stained area with the solution and let it sit for a while so the vinegar can work its way through the oily particles. Afterwards wipe clean with a fresh cloth and the stain should be gone.

3. Dye stains. Here are the stains made from cherries, blueberries, mustard, grass and paint. Dye stains can be really troublesome if a person does not know how to treat them. If the stain is on your clothes it is washable, but if it is on a carpet or upholstery you may have to call a professional cleaning company such as carpet cleaning Melbourne.

Stains come from different sources in various forms and for proper removing of the stain the first thing you need to do is to define its type. Then and only then you can know how exactly should you approach it. Of course in many situations the stain just won't come out and you will have to call a cleaner.
