Top Ten Things To Ask A Grandparent
The key inspiration for the creation of The Biography Site (and consequently this blog) was the death of my beloved grandfather. He is foremost in my thoughts and when I started to write this entry, I proceeded on the basis of writing down those questions I wished I had asked my grandfather. Funnily enough, on completing the list, I am most surprised and very pleased to realise that I do broadly know the answers to each of these questions.
Even so, I wish I had written down more information because there seems to be so much I have already forgotten. For example, I broadly know that my grandfather was born in Kent, England. But I cannot, for the life of me, remember the particular town. Now, living just a few miles from Kent, I would love to explore the place where my grandfather grew up. Of course, I am unable to do so until I investigate further to uncover a fact which I was told long ago but promptly forgot!
Moral of the story? Ask the questions now while you have the opportunity and make sure you write the answers down for future reference!
To assist in this process, as a starting point, my top ten questions to ask a grandparent (or any given relative for that matter) would include:
1. Where were you born?
2. What was your childhood like?
3. Did you like your parents?
4. What was the best day of your life?
5. Was your life affected by any war and if so, how?
6. Have you suffered from any major health issues?
7. Who are your great loves?
8. What is you best achievement or what makes you most proud?
9. Does your family have any skeletons in the closet?
10. Do you have any notable ancestors?
Take the time to ask your grandparents some questions today – you may be astounded by what you discover...
