The Science behind Gut Feelings

A few days ago we shared in Create&Share an article about our “other brain”: the heart. Making further research we found that other sources have found another “second brain”: the gut, which is said to influence mood and well-being.
Having “gut feelings” is a common expression in many English speaking countries. Now, scientists in the field of neurogastroenterology are proving that this popular saying has a scientific explanation. Gut feelings are generally regarded as not modulated by conscious thought, and as a reflection of intuition rather than rationality. Thus, it can be considered our “second brain”.
