While our modern Western society keeps consuming without control (main premise of capitalism), the big corporations program the products in order to reduce their life cycle to a few years.
In the middle of this materialistic madness, the resulting scrap is placed in huge cemeteries located in developing countries. There, entire families live surrounded by cables and steel plates trying to pick up the pieces that may allow them survive one more day. Plannes obsolesccence is the antithesis of responsible consumption.
For an industry, planned obsolescence stimulates demand by encouraging purchasers to buy sooner if they still want a functioning product. Built-in obsolescence is used in many different products. There is, however, the potential backlash of consumers who learn that the manufacturer invested money to make the product obsolete faster; such consumers might turn to a producer (if any exists) that offers a more durable alternative
