When it comes to small living room spaces, pale or monochromatic schemes are best.  Opt for neutrals, white or cool blues and greens.  Contrary to belief a monochromatic scheme does not mean black and white, it simply means using different tones in the same colour.  This helps to make furniture recede into the background making the space feel larger.
