Save Your Marriage After An Affair

Somewhere along the line you lost your senses and started having an affair with a married man. Only your husband discovered your infidelity and he just walked out the door; you are not sure that he is ever coming back. What should you do now? Can you save your marriage? Is it possible to get him back? It may be but only if you tread very carefully.
Obviously, the first thing that you are going to need to do is beg his forgiveness but you may want to wait for a while before you try. Time will give his anger and hurt a chance to heal a bit. Time will also give you a chance to get your thoughts together. You may only have one chance to plead your case and make your apology. You want to be sure that you get it right the first time.
When considering what you should say and do, it is important to remember that there is, quite likely, another marriage on the rocks due to your actions. Keep them in mind when you are planning your reconciliation especially if they’re a couple that your husband also knows.
Before you can make an honest attempt to get back together with your husband, you need to know why you had the affair. Was the marriage in trouble before you stepped out on your relationship? If so, then you may need to think hard on whether your marriage can be saved. Keep in mind that affairs can happen even in loving marriages. If this is the case in your marriage, then you need to figure out why you felt the need to stray. By making this determination, you can make the guarantee to yourself and your husband that it won’t happen again.
You will also want to figure out the intentions of the man you were having the affair with. Did he see your tryst as more than a fling? Was he considering leaving his wife for you? If so, this can really complicate your efforts to resolve things with your husband. It’s important to learn where he stands in his marriage before attempting to make reconciliation. Make sure you make the man aware of your intentions and that things between you and he are over. You should do all this before you attempt to get your husband back.
There is no chance for a successful reconciliation with your husband and to save your marriage until you have resolved these issues for yourself. If you try to apologize to him before you are absolutely sure of your own intentions, you will come across as insincere and he is unlikely to accept your apology.
Once your husband has caught you cheating, there is no way to erase that fact from his memory. It is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on your part to win back your husband and his trust again. Remember that trust must be earned especially when you’ve broken it with such a heinous act.
