Every marriage proposal is special.  Many happen at romantic upscale restaurants and others on Jumbotron screens at major sporting events.  Sometimes the “proposer” will concoct an elaborate surprise for the “proposee” that includes a huge production involving many people and months of planning.  Still other proposals are emotional and spontaneous.  Rarely, however, do they happen on live television.

Earlier this week, Australia’s version of the hit reality show Big Brother announced this year’s winner, Benjamin Norris, who then proposed to his boyfriend during the show’s live finale.  After winning the $250,000 prize, Norris surprised everyone by presenting a family diamond to his future husband who is also named Ben.

“This was a diamond that my great-grandfather bought for my great-grandmother and it was worn by my parents on their wedding day so it’s something that is a part of my family... Since I’ve met Ben all I have wanted is for him to be a part of my family.  And no-one is going to tell us that sitting on the couch together at the end of the day pretending that we’re married that we’re not married.” – Benjamin Norris

Being one of those people who is easily brought to tears (sappy sitcoms, Lifetime Movies, AT&T Commercials, old people holding hands, etc.), I found this proposal, as well as the reaction from his soon-to-be-spouse and the audience, to be a particularly heartwarming example of the power of True Love.

Does anything on television ever bring you to tears?
