I love pizza.  I always have.  In fact, one of the biggest treats for young baby boomers was probably pizza.  I learned at an early age that a frozen pizza could become the best meal or late night snack ever.  In my small town, we didn’t have an Italian restaurant but we had Turnabout Pizza.  It was delicious and the crust was unusual.  Not only was it delicious, but it was rolled into what looked like a rope laying around the edge of the pizza and providing a handle of sorts for each yummy slice.  We always ordered carry out and brought it home in a thick pizza box.  I’m getting hungry just remembering …

It wasn’t until much later in life (probably when I had to start paying for them myself) that I discovered pizza delivery services.  One of the most famous pizza deliverers, Dominos Pizza, promised “thirty minutes fast or free” until their drivers started getting into accidents.

And then, of course, there was Pizza Hut.  Not my favorite pizza but they often had all-you-can-eat options that made up for it.  They’ve always been creative when it comes to marketing new products but they may have gone too far with their new Crown Crust Cheeseburger Pizza.

Introduced by Pizza Hut Middle East, this new pizza features whole cheeseburgers set around the outside edge of the pie.  They’re supposed to resemble “jewels” around the “crown”.  The pizza itself is topped with traditional cheeseburger toppings like lettuce, tomatoes and a special sauce.

I enjoy cheeseburgers almost as much as pizza so there’s something about this that appeals to me.  All the food groups that are the building blocks for a healthy diet are represented so it should be healthy, right?
