Sounds so romantic – Oregon in theRain….conjures up images of waves crashing up on the beach, of mist delicately falling on the petals of each flower, and of a couple walking hand in hand under a decorative umbrella. STOP!
On a motorcycle doing our first tour down the Oregon Coast, it was far from romantic. First, it was getting up in the morning to the familiar sound of rain against a window….I think to myself, how bad can it be? I peek out….Oh God….it’s teeming! By the time we shower it will have past…I am sure of it.
We are now loading the bags and tying down the knacksack in what I will refer to as very hard rain….it’s amazing how many uses a green garbage bag has!
We have now resigned ourselves to having to put on our ‘oh so fashionable’ green rain gear. My favourite thing, looking like a huge string bean sitting on the back of a motorcycle. Talk about bitch pad…
We begin to head out….and just because it can…the sky completely opens up! I can barely see and of course, if I can’t see – how can Bart see?
I keep thinking…it’s going to let up…when I see sign of reprieve…the air museum…yes, just what we need. Anything to get out of this rain…it could have said poison ivy museum and I would have gone in!
The museum was amazing! check it out….http://www.tillamookair.com
As we finish up our lunch I am trying to avoid looking outside…but hoping…okay praying…the rain has stopped. Yeah no, it is a torrential down pour! I am now looking like some acrobat trying out for the circus as I struggle to put my wet rain gear back on….I had no idea I had such good balance on one leg!
3 hours later the rain has finally stopped. We are cruising with what I think is a smile on our faces….when Bart pulls over suddenly. I am like…what the heck? I peer behind me and there in the middle of the highway is our exhaust tip. Guess it had enough of the rain as well….
