Despite having skipped school in my day I am not a fan of
students skipping school. However, there is one day when I would be OK with
students missing school: no, that day is not “Senior Skip Day”, that day I’m
referring to is baseball’s opening day.
It would be great if MLB’s opening day was an unofficial
holiday and students didn’t have to attend school so that they have the
opportunity to experience opening day. Even if you don’t go watch the game
live, watching the game on TV is pretty darn exciting in its own right.
All teams are undefeated and every fan feels this is the
year for their team. Obviously for New York Yankees’ fans and Boston Red Sox
fans they feel it’s their year all season long , but for Chicago Cubs’ fans who
want to put an end to their “Curse of the Billy Goat” the feeling is at its
strongest on opening day.
Along with taking your kids to the zoo, the aquarium, the
park and the state fair I feel parents should add taking their children to
opening day of their favorite baseball team. I will never forget the first
baseball game I attended and I can only imagine how much more exciting it is
attending your first game being on opening day.
