Occupy Your Mind

I spent yesterday morning down at the Occupy LSX site on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of the City of London. It’s the second time I have visited ‘tent city’ and I must say it feels like something is really beginning to take hold in this impromptu and organic gathering of creative, determined and focussed group of people. The tents will not be there for ever but the ideas which are being born through education and discussion will frame a movement of thought that can take on the financial and political status quo currently devouring itself.
There are some really smart and media savvy people working within the camp. Just look at the way they ‘repossessed’ the UBS owned office block in nearby Hackney that has remained empty and dormant for the past three years… a fantastic PR coup that highlights how London’s resources are being wasted while the Government is closing down community projects in the name of austerity. Renamed the ‘Bank of Ideas’, the building represents another foothold in the battle against the Corporation of London while keeping Occupy London ahead of the curve in terms of grabbing the media’s attention. Genius!
