Why is MLM Marketing Soooo Hard?

Actually, it isn’t! The biggest issue I have had with MLM marketing in the last few years is the training (or should I say, the lack there of) for those people who are new to the industry and really have no idea how to do it.  Don’t get me wrong, there are a number of really good companies out there with fantastic training programs. Unfortunately, there are lots more that are terrible. It is the same thing I keep seeing over and over again.

Promoter: “This is REALLY easy, the product sells itself. Look at what Mr XXXX did in 45 days! All you need is 3 people under you and you are set! You can cruise to a six-figure income!”

(Notice all of the exclamation marks – he is REALLY excited at getting a possible new prospect.)

Unfortunately, the promoter signs you up on the $499 kit and barely speak to you again.  You ask for help and they say

“Just talk to more people.  Get 20 no’s per day and you are on your way to financial freedom! Call me if you need more help.”

And again, it’s all rah rah and NO ACTUAL TRAINING! Over 90% of people in MLM never make any money. I wonder why? So who is to blame?

IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT!

 

MLM Marketing for Dummies

This post will stick to the basics on what to do to get started.  No fluff or trying to get you to buy the greatest marketing program in the world…you will see lots of that if you look for it. I will make recommendations on the best programs and products I have seen after 100’s of hours or research but you need to first take a SERIOUS look at what you want and how to get there. The following areas will be the key posts over the next few days to get you started on building a REAL business.

1. Business Mindset

Figure out your WHY.  If you don’t know why you are doing this business, you are doomed from the start. Get together with your significant other (wife, business partner, whatever) and determine why you are looking to make money. Ask yourself this:

“If I had all of the money I could ever need to pay all my bills, give to charity, help my family…what would I do?” That will be your WHY.

From there, you can start to build your business knowing where you want to go. You actually have a finish line now.

2. Routine

Everything you do in marketing will take one of two things away from you… TIME or MONEY.  You choose. If you have lots of start up money, you can save yourself time by outsourcing some tasks. If you don’t have lots of money, you can save it by using up your time.  Some things are free (or quite cheap) but take a lot of time to develop. If you are like most people, you are in this business because you don’t have money to spare. You make your income from your full time J.O.B. and you want to make your fortune with your part time MLM.  Have a plan for each day so you don’t waste the one thing you can not waste…TIME.  The longer a task takes, the less you make.  So PLAN accordingly.

• Spend 10-15 mins each day on your Mindset.
• Spend 15-60 mins each day on your marketing.
• Relationship Building – no set time frame for this one – do it EVERY chance you get.
• Create Content.  Connect with people by using a blog, youtube, articles, etc.
• Have gratitude. Write a list of 10 things you are grateful for every day.
• Use a quality blog from several sources.  No ONE person will teach you everything – I follow several to learn everything I can. Yes, follow me and follow my mentor Ray at rayhigdon.com

 3. Marketing

The routine I mention includes are #3 – Marketing. This is your learning portion of your routine. Read, listen and grow.  Webinars, ebooks, articles, blogs, etc.  I will give you a rather LARGE list of what I have used (so far) and will gladly take suggestions of others that you have found that I should be looking into.

 4. Content

The tough part – this will take some time but will be a HUGE benefit for your business. Personally, start a blog. It is by far the best way to connect with people if done correctly.  I have been through the process and I am learning from the BEST (Thanks Ray!). It does not have to cost gobs and gobs of money. I set up a blog for myself for $50 – a fraction of what it costs to have it done professionally. ($1500 in my part of the world)

 

There is your starting point.  Determine your WHY and your daily routine first (and what company you are using!). The next post will deal with an in depth look at your business mindset. I will give you an exact daily routine that takes very little time but is powerful! I used it for 5 days and on the sixth day, I had 6 prospects in one day in the span of 2 hours!
