When I think about software the first thing that comes to mind is whether or not it can help me with my day to day activities. There are so many programs on the market that do nothing but dumb stuff and of course they are the ones that seem to get the most promotion. Added to that fact, they always seem to charge the most for their application, without giving any legitimate reasons why. Personally, I refuse to pay for any program to run on any of my computers, especially if it is and operating system that is plagued with problems.

Frankly I think it is a slap in the face when someone dishes out their hard earned dollars for a piece of software and they refuse to improve it for free. I believe that once you have paid for your program, all updates should be free and the methods for getting those updates should be a simple download from the Internet. I have owned several computers in my lifetime, in fact I have been involved with computers since the first version of windows hit the market and unless I chose to purchase a new computer I would have to pay for the newer version on the shelf. Believe it or not there are many open source programs on the market that are free from the beginning and the same goes for  updates.

All of a sudden the lights began to flicker and as I heard the heavy drops of the rain outside I could not help biting my lip in anticipation that there was going to be a power outage. I immediately began saving my work and then it happened, a loud noise, followed by sparks, then everything went dead. I know that the project I was working on had not been properly saved but I was a bit more concerned about the rest of information on my computer, especially since I had not done a backup in awhile.

Most people who own a computer have no concept of the fact that if their computer goes down there is a better than average chance that they will lose everything. What this means is that if you don’t save your work to an outside source, you will have lost it altogether. It is relatively easy to get a virus if you surf the Internet on a regular basis and unless you want to be at the mercy of others, it is important to protect your work against system failure, especially if you want to be able to restore it at a later date.
