How to Get Rid of Carpet Stains

There are a large variety of homemade solutions to remove carpet stains that are effective, depending on the type of carpet and the type of stain. In some cases, you might have to use several techniques to remove a particular stubborn stain, but in general, a single solution should be enough to get rid of most carpet stains. Follow these tips to learn how to get rid of carpet stains quickly and easily.
Instructions

  • Try to remove carpet stains with a mild solution first, such as a mixture of 1 tablespoon of liquid dish-washing detergent and 1 quart of warm water. Fill a spray bottle with the solution, and carefully spray the stain, so you don't soak the carpet too much. Next, grab a clean white cloth and blot the stain out of the carpet. This solution should be enough to remove most carpet stains, so it is a great choice to start with.
  • To remove beer, wine and blood stains, cleaners Brixton suggest a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Mix the ingredients in an empty spray bottle, then spray the stain and let it sit saturated for about 15 minutes. Use a damp sponge to blot the stain, then rinse the carpet with a cloth moistened in warm water. Press a thick stack of paper towels firmly to the spot in order to absorb as much moisture out of the carpet as possible. Once the stain is gone, let the caret air dry.
  • A solution of equal parts water and ammonia works well on vomit, urine, egg and mustard stains. Just as the other solutions, pour this one into a spray bottle and apply it to the stained area of the carpet. Be careful not to saturate the carpet too much in order to keep the carpet backing dry. Use paper towels to blot the stain, and then blot dry with a clean cloth.
  • For grease stains, use rubbing alcohol. Dampen a white cloth with rubbing alcohol and blot at the affected area until the stain is gone. Be careful not to spread the stain while blotting.
  • For stubborn stains, you can use a combination of the methods above. Start with the detergent solution followed up  with vinegar solution, and finish the stain removal with another application of detergent solution. If the stain remains, consider hiring professionals, such as cleaners Brockley, to get the stain out of your carpet for you.
