Guitar Riffs: Sweetie Pie

Right now she’s lying on her back in a storage unit that's about to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Never in a million years did I believe Sweetie Pie would end up this way. Never in a million years did I think Sweetie Pie would end up in someone else’s arms.

The last time we made music together was 2008. We were jamming to Lisa Marie Presley’s “Idiot” and Queen’s “Tie Your Mother Down”. As usual we were like two peas in a pod, her body perched atop my left hip, me strumming her rubbery strings until they nearly broke.

My Marshall mini was turned up so loud I could feel the distortion bouncing around in my belly and tingling through my thick thighs. I was the bedroom rock star playing to an audience of none, she the cream colored, left-handed Fender Mexican Strat with a shorted out pickup switch.

No matter how much I pushed her Sweetie was always there for me. She was patient and forgiving. She taught me when to be gentle and when to be rough. For years she stood by and listened as I bumbled my way through riff after riff. She listened until I got it right then she became my partner in rock and roll crime.

I owe my Sweetie a huge debt of gratitude I'll never be able to repay. I pray the highest bidder is a music lover or better yet a music teacher. If we’re lucky she’ll be a left-handed rocker girl who wants to be a bedroom rock star.

Hell, maybe she'll even grow up to be a real rock star.

Thank you, Sweetie.
