Positive emotions are a powerful antidote against stress, pain and disease in later adulthood. These are the findings of a recent study carried out by Anthony Ong, psychologist of the Cornell University (New York, USA).

According to Ong, it is undeniable that positive emotions are a valuable adaptative resource. Thus, it is of utmost importance to study them in order to understand and boost our development and flowering means.

As regards the ways of encouraging this type of emotions on a personal level, Ong recommends five different paths. The first one consists in finding sense in everyday living, by reviewing all adverse situations from a positive perspective, linking the daily events to a positive value and setting ourselves realistic goals.
