Sometimes a good thing is worth repeating. Like a classic movie, or your best-loved CD. On occasion we invite our favourite person to share in those treasures. How about a classic movie, your favourite person and a stellar bottle of wine? Or two in this case. Another double hitter is happening this week at The Ferocious Grape.
First up and back by popular demand is an incredible red wine. We have had many requests to feature Abbaye de Saint-Ferme Les Vignes du Soir once again for our Ferocious Friday. You know the wine that literally means “vines of the evening”. It refers to those vines planted farthest from the abbey and receiving the last sun of the day.
Part two of our Ferocious double play is a wickedly delicious white.
This week it is the 2010 Red Diamond Chardonnay. Laura Sorge the wine maker for Red Diamond Chardonnay said it perfectly. “I want to make wines that everyone can enjoy. Red Diamond wines aren’t meant to intimidate or mystify people. They are approachable, fruit-forward and have a unique style.” Enough said. It’s all of that and more.
Stop by the Ferocious Grape, and double up on the double. You really don’t need an occasion for wine. Just a corkscrew! The Grape always has what you need to end the work week. – including the corkscrew!

Ferocious Fact for the Fermented Fruit Lover – It is a common misconception that all wines improve with age. In fact, more than 90 percent of all wines should be consumed within one year. The three major collectibles that should age more than 10 years are: a great Châteaux of Bordeaux, the best producers of California Cabernet Sauvignon, and the finest producers of vintage port.

Abbaye de Saint-Ferme Les Vignes du Soir is a beautiful red Bordeaux blend dominated by Merlot at 70 percent, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon at 20 percent, plus a smidge of Cabernet franc. This wine is intensely aromatic with heaps of red and black fruit. Cassis liquer, cherries, plums, blackberry and slight floral tones. Medium bodied on the palate, it exhibits a lovely range of red dominated fruit with accents of black fruits.
Pair this supple, robust wine with buffalo burgers, venison steaks or lamb shanks.
Red Diamond Chardonnay from Washington is a fruit-forward wine that presents aromas of apple, pear and a hint of spice, bursting into the mouth with juicy honeydew melon and subtle oak. The finish is perfectly balanced between the acid and fruit.
