Yummy Looking Felt
Donut with Sprinkles

I didn’t take pictures of this project while I was making it, but it’s pretty easy and I am sure you’ll be able to make it without the visualization.

Items Needed

  • Felt – light brown, dark brown, white, pink (or any color you want)
  • Embroidery floss
  • Beads for sprinkles
  • CD or DVD (or large circle object and a smaller one for the center of your donut)
  • Pencil
  • Scrap Paper or Cardboard (for pattern)
  • Glue Gun (if you don’t want to sew)
  • Sewing Machine (if you’re sewing it)
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing (pillow stuffing or your home-made stuffing)
  • Sewing Needle
  • Thread (colors to match your felt)

Creating Pattern

Using the CD or DVD, (or the items you’ve chosen) trace on your scrap paper/construction paper.  If  you’re using the CD or DVD make sure you also trace the inner circle too. Once you’ve traced your pattern you can cut it out.

Donut and Icing Felt Pieces

Using the pattern you just created, cut 2 pieces for the donut  and 1 piece for your icing. Don’t forget to cut the center circle out as well. If you’re using a large sheet of felt you can fold it in half and cut both donut pieces as once. To shape the icing piece fold it in half and cut a squiggly line around it.

Sewing Donut Pieces Together

Sew the outside circle about 1/4″ from the outer edge. Leave about a 1″ opening for turning and stuffing it later. Don’t sew the center circle yet.  ** Optional to make your project look cleaner snip little snips along the outer edge, careful not to snip into your stitches.** Once you’ve stitched the outer edge and completed the optional step, it’s time to turn the donut right side out.

Now it’s  time to sew the inner circle, using a blanket stitch sew the inner circle closed. Click on blanket stitch if you don’t know how to do.

Stuffing Donut

Using the pillow stuffing or your homemade stuffing (created from scraps of material and felt pieces) stuff the donut, packing the stuffing in tightly will help make the donut sturdy and firm. Tuck the edges of the opening in and stitch it closed.

Icing Sprinkles & Adding Icing to Donut

Using beads or the scrap pieces of material or felt, attach the pieces to the top of the icing piece. Make sure these pieces are secure good, doing a couple extra stitches on the beads is suggested. Once you’ve gotten the sprinkles attached, you can now attach the icing to the top of the donut. Again using the blanket stitch sew the inner circle to the center of the donut. Then do the same to the outer edges of the icing piece.

There you go!! A yummy looking felt made donut!!

The same steps can be done using a glue gun, where it says sew just glue. I tried both methods and the only problem I saw with the glue is burning my fingers.
