The controversial issue of same-sex marriage was finally settled today (at least in California) with a resounding yes. Yes to what countries like Canada, Argentina, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain have already recognized, legal marriage for gays and lesbians. California now joins Connecticut, Washington DC, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont as one of the only states to recognize same-sex marriage in the US. Though this hot-button issue is sure to spark much political debate, the LGBT community can celebrate a small step in the fight towards equality.
