I just wished to express my heartfelt feelings in a tribute to the greatest military men and women the world has ever known. This is fact which can easily be demonstrated by recounting just some of their accomplishments and a few tributes of acclaim given them by those who they fought. Before I get to that please allow me some additional commentary giving special note where merit is due. The American fighting soldier stands head and shoulders above virtually every fighting man ever fielded in battle. I speak of the men aside from their officers even though they have had some of the greatest military minds in history among their officer corps. But the American fighting men are equally effective and oft more feared when they operate on their own volition without an officer in the lead. The sole historical example of an equal force from history was the Spartan 300 under King Leonidas at Thermopylae who fought to the last man against odds beyond belief. The American Special Forces soldiers are every bit the equal of King Leonidas personal guard and have proved so on many occasions, many of which we will never be made aware of due to the nature of the operations they perform. But the American fighting forces have a long history of greatness.
The Marines and the Navy were the first military in the annals of modern warfare to defeat Muslim terror which had laid siege to commercial shipping in much of the Mediterranean Sea and parts of the Atlantic Ocean near Gibraltar. They not only defeated these Muslim Pirates once, but twice while taking time to defeat the British a second time in the War of 1812. The Muslim menace which plagued the seas were the Barbary Pirates who, when queried as to their motives in 1786 by Thomas Jefferson, Ambassador to France, and John Adams, Ambassador to Britain, in London, the Ambassador to the Dey of Algiers, Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja replied, “It was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.” Some things just do not change with time, primarily the excellence of the American soldier.
The one attribute which has the American soldier stand out from among their peers is the ability to think independently and not being totally reliant on the orders of a superior officer. This has been exemplified by numerous of soldiers decorated for their independent actions without needing to be given orders which turned the tide of battle or saved numerous of their fellow soldiers. It has been rumored that enemies have instructed their troops not to aim at and take out the American officers as doing so only makes the remaining soldiers completely unpredictable, overly innovative, and simply far more dangerous on the field of battle. No finer tribute is there than the respect and even the trust of your adversaries, something the American soldiers have consistently earned throughout the years. So, this is to all the soldiers, young and old, present and past, combat and support, this salute and tip of the hat is for all you have given selflessly in order to preserve those sacred convictions of a free and liberty loving country. Thank you.
