Dim Sum in London

I don’t like travelling far, but I will travel for good food.

Char Siew cheong fun, scallop and chive choeng fun

Close-up of char siew. The meat and sauce was sweet, but not excessively. Absolutely delicious!

Prawn dumpling. Juicy, succulent prawns, whee!

Siew mai

Garlic chicken and sweet sausage with rice. Garlic chicken was good, sausage tasted as expected, and the rice was filled with erm. sausage sauce?

Glutinous rice with some other ingredient, can’t remember.

While waiting for our dim sum to arrive, we looked around and saw two people with a noodle dish that looked pretty good, so we asked for the menu and ordered what we thought was that dish. Didn’t turn out as expected, but wasn’t too bad either. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the chewy beef..

Our final dim sum dish was whelk satay.

This dish surprised me for two reasons.

1. I expected it to come on a stick since its satay.

2. The meat was chewy. I expected the texture to be similar to chicken.

The thing is, I thought since whelk sounded like elk, they should look the same or at least vaguely similar.. but for the benefit of those who like me, didnt know what a whelk/elk is..

Very different creatures.

By the way, there was only two of us today. We ordered so much, the waitresses laughed as they served our food. Beside us, two big sized caucasians were sharing 3 dishes, and there we were, two puny asians gobbling down 7!
