The home that we were living in was not our own and although it had served its purpose it was time to move on. We had lived at this property for five years when in fact the original plan was to rent for one year and then buy a new home. There was a beautiful column mailbox at the entrance to the driveway which was was what attracted us to the house in the first place. It was time to find a home that we could call our own, one we could own rather than rent and we had seen a few in a home magazine that looked like the kind of place we would be happy in. The us mail would be around to keep us current with whatever was sent to us, regardless of what sort of mailbox we had out front, but because we had already gotten attached to the column mailbox, we decided to look for something similar.
Whether the home had a traditional mail box or something a little nicer would, it not have made a difference to us because we could have purchased a brick column mailbox from Mailboxixchange after the fact. You can be certain that before long the postal service would be delivering our mail to our address in something we could be proud of.
I am not sure why a fancy mailbox was that important to us, it is not as though we were used to receiving a lot of mail. I guess what made us pay closer attention to residential mailboxes was the variety and styles that we had witnessed in our neighborhood. We did not need a large mailbox, however it would have to be a secure mailbox, especially since I had read somewhere that some unscrupulous individuals have been known to help themselves to your mail. I guess having a stone mailbox with a secure lock is one way to deter any such activity
