"Teen" to be or not yet to be!
Recent work with a client or should I say two clients in this case, has reminded me of what I like about interior design. The brief was to work with a "Not So Teen" client X, under the supervision of their parents. The brief from client X's perspective was to transform their childhood bedroom into a "teenager bedroom" by any means necessary.
Client X wanted to banish all references to the sun, stars and moon which was once considered the highlight of the room. Client X's dream was for a bedroom to proudly bring friends home to, for sleep overs, parties, all things young people like to do, you know what I mean. Client X's parents perspective of the brief as the key budget holders, was for us to deliver a "Teen bedroom" that client X could mature into, working with a constrained budget incorporating available resources.
I immediately saw the possibilities of achieving a "Teen bedroom" by utilising existing accessories and bedroom furniture along with other surplus items from around the home. With some de-cluttering and re- organization of said bedroom, I was ready for the new challenge. By taking this approach I was able to give client X a room to be proud of and stay within budget. "Win Win" for all parties involved.
Ooh the thing I forgot to clarify at the start was that client X is not yet a teenager, however at the age of 11 client X is doing an excellent job of aspiring to be one very soon!
For those of you with "not so teens", you'll probably relate to this story.
What's the most outrageous demands your " not so teens" have given you?
