Chelsea owner appoints himself as new Chelsea manager? http://football-rivalries.com/blog/?p=775

Chelsea have made the inevitable step of appointing their Russian owner as the new boss of his beloved Chelsea. Of course I am joking. The concern is Chelsea’s insistence to sign a without doubt a talented player, without installing a manager.
It looks likely that Avram Grant was going months ago, so in theory you don’t allow a manager that you’re going to sack to sign a player for 50m. Torres was out of sorts but it did appear that Drogba on the pitch wasn’t happy with his presence.
Torres was also invariably left out of the team or put on the bench not something you do with a star signing, that you have brought to the club.
This echoes the signing of Shevchenko for 30m, it was widely claimed that Mourinho never wanted to sign the player. Shevchenko’s form suffered at the same rate as the Spaniards displays have failed to impress.
Abramovich is treating Chelsea like a game of football manager. He doesn’t realise that talent alone can’t win you the major trophies and in Chelsea’s case the Champions League.
What counts equally is how well players get on socially off and on the pitch. They also need to develop an understanding, and be prepared to work at getting the best out of each other on the pitch.
The team also need a balance of hard work and talent. There are prime examples of that in the Manchester United team with players like Park and Fletcher. United also possessed two strikers who developed a perfect understanding to get the best out of each other Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.
At the moment Chelsea don’t seem any different to Real Madrid and all their big name players of whom they tried to make a winning team out of.
If a new manager comes in they may feel that players like Modric or Torres are not the kind of players they like to have in their team.
They may prefer Lampard and Drogba style players at their peak for example.
If Roman ever steps back and leaves the manager to run the team they might have a chance of lasting longer than a season, if they don’t establish instant success.
