Bulgaria and the Madara Horseman
One of the countries that these days seems like a real alternative to the expensive sea resorts on the Riviera or the islands of Greece is Bulgaria. This country may have the reputation of a place good for teenagers who want to drink all night and go to the beaches for the rest of the day. A place where sex and alcohol are something usual and normal. In fact it is true that many young tourists who visit this country are coming exactly because these things, but there is a lot more to it than that. Many older tourists know exactly what I am talking about. The people who are interested in history will know that Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe and civilisations on the continent.
So, in order to make you familiar with some of the fact about Bulgaria that you might not know, I will present to you its history, or a small part of it.
The Bulgarians came from Asia around 600 year. There they had a country called great Bulgaria, which was very respected in the ancient world, because it was very rich and powerful. Its ruler, khan Kubrat was raised in the royal court with the Byzantine Emperor and was very close with him. The old Bulgarians were rich and educated people. They had one of the strongest armies of those days. So, when they decided to come to the Balkans, it is not a wonder that they beat the Byzantine warriors.
From these times, not many things can be seen. The old cities, these people built were ruined during the years. However, one thing, which I consider very interesting is still where it was 1200 years ago – Madara Horseman. This is a statue made in the rocks and it symbolises the power of the rulers. It is a horseman with a spear who kills a lion. The statue is in real size and gives us idea about the times these people were living in.
So, if you want to see this place and all the other interesting and worthy places, simply call Bulgaria and make a reservation. These days in each village you can find a house the you can rent and stay in.
Make some cheap calls to Bulgaria, book a place and go there. You won't regret it.
