The Air Force Falcons have made the Armed Forces Bowl in all three of head coach Troy Calhoun’s seasons on the job and are primed for another post season appearance in 2010 although the BCS title appears to be a longshot as online sportsbooks opened with the 2010 Air Force Falcons at 300-1 in 2011 BCS predictions for the national title. Last year Air Force finished 8-5 straight up and 7-4-1 against the spread in college football odds with a win in the Armed Forces Bowl over Houston 47-20. Nearly all key skill position players, including junior quarterback Tim Jefferson and senior fullback Jared Tew, return but the offensive line suffered huge graduation losses, which is the main concern for the attack. Tew was a 2nd Team Mountain West Conference performer heading into 2010 college football betting odds. The defense returns 6 starters and was very good last year allowing just 16 points per game. Coordinator Tim DeRuyter left for Texas A&M with co-defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt replacing him to ensure continuity.

Air Force had a close 17-20 loss against a top 10 TCU team that won the Mountain West and lost to Utah in overtime which shows that they are capable of a conference run in college football odds. The Falcons were +22 in turnover ratio last year which will be hard to duplicate and have finished in the black all three of Calhoun’s seasons on the job. With key losses in the offensive line and on defense and with the transition of Wallerstedt as the sole DC the Falcons may struggle early on but they have the systems in place to again be a bowl team.
