AJANTA AND ELLORA – REDISCOVERED
Both the structures show amazing craftsmanship in their sculptures. Ajanta caves are dedicated to Lord Buddha and depiction of his various teachings. The Ellora caves are a magnificent example of a temple complex cut from a single rock. It is dedicated to depiction of Hindu gods and goddesses, Jain and Buddhist gods, and their mythology. The detailed portrayal of society in their respective era is un paralled even today I think. The sleeping Buddha statue at the Ajanta caves is one of the very few statues of lord Buddha in that Pose worldwide. The representation of society and customs in the temples of Ellora makes a mockery of the rituals, customs, superstitions, and narrow mindedness that engulf our country today.
Though I was a bit sceptical at first about visiting the caves in monsoon, but it turned out to be the best time to visit the place (besides the annual festival) for a photographer. The natural light was not at all harsh. There were hardly any tourists, so no worries about unwanted people, stray hands, heads and shoulders in your pictures.
I wish that this heritage be well preserved and that the generations now, and of the future apply the teachings of history for betterment of the society.
